In 2016, Living Faith received the designation of "Mariner Friendly Congregation" - a sign of our partnership with Seafarer's House Ministry.
Ft. Lauderdale is home to a thriving seaport, named Port Everglades. Many of the everyday items that we use and count on - come to us by ship. Seafarers House exists to provide services to those who work on board those ships, who come from many countries all around the world.
Seafarers’ House at Port Everglades is open throughout the year as a safe, friendly place where mariners can connect with their communities and families, relax, seek guidance and get emergency help if needed. They provide access to pastoral care and counseling, emergency assistance, local ground transportation and everyday items through their pastoral team and on shore and on board services. Every mariner that arrives in Port Everglades is welcome at their center. Those who may not be able leave their ships due to time constraints or visa restrictions have access to services from their vessels through Seafarers ship-visiting program.
Living Faith supports the ministry of Seafarers by designating our "God's Work - Our Hands" Sunday (usually in September) to preparing Christmas Shoeboxes for the ministry. Those boxes contain socks, gloves, toiletries, writing supplies, and other hard to get items for mariners. They are distributed by Seafarers staff, volunteers, and visiting teams from churches during the time from Thanksgiving to just past New Years Day. In 2016, Living Faith prepared 110 shoeboxes; Seafarers delivered nearly 1200 to mariners over the holidays!
