2017 Bishop’s Lenten Visits
What is a Lenten Visit?
The Lenten journey from ashes to Easter is about to start. Lent is a baptismal journey. It is a time for Christians to reflect on and be renewed in the covenant God made with us when we were joined to Jesus’ dying and rising in the water of Baptism as we prepare to celebrate that new life at Easter. On four Saturdays in Lent all around the Florida-Bahamas Synod, Bishop Schaefer invites rostered ministers, synod parish deacons, congregational leaders, and anyone else who wants to grow in their journey of faith with Christ to gather for a time of learning, worship and fellowship to be energized to go back into their communities to BOLDLY share Christ, PASSIONATELY make disciples, and FAITHFULLY do justice.
What is this year’s learning focus?
This year as we continue to observe Reformation500, we join with those around the church who are using the season of Lent to re-discover the richness of the Small Catechism. “I must still read and study the catechism daily, yet I cannot master it as I wish, but must remain a child and a pupil of the catechism, and I do it gladly” (Martin Luther)
As we grow in the faith in which we were nurtured through the Catechism, we are able to pass this heritage on to those who follow us in faith. We will share our stories of this little book we love, and rejoice in the story of Christ’s grace that lives and breathes in the Small Catechism.
This year’s presenter will be Pr. Wally Meyer.
